Stress, S'mores, and Sound Effects: Making Our First Podcast!

 Hi guysssss! ✨🎇
Long time no see! How have you been, I hope you are all right because I am NOT. I am so tired because of the midterms and all the assignments but anyway, I still have the energy to dance even in the subway hehe. 💃

Today I am here to share another fun experience! Me and my bestie Berfin 💗(click here to see her blog) created a podcast! We created a very short-story namely The Melody of the Forest ( I embedded it at the final of this post)

We had so much fun but at the same time, we encountered a lot of problems. The voice recording was the most difficult part because some sites were not working properly 😠and we didn’t find a quiet place in the whole campus. Who knew that all the building's doors were closed on Sunday??? We even booked a room in the library but we didn’t know that the room was not separated and we had to record somewhere else. Guess where, it may sound a little disgusting but it was clean everywhere. We recorded the voices in the bathroom :) Thank God it was Sunday and there were few people in the library and no one used the 2nd floor bathroom. It was so silly and weird but what can we do about it 😅. Preparing the script was a little hard because of the time limit imposed but I think we managed it well. It was a little difficult to add the sounds too because we were noobs with the system but WE DID IT! 🥳We had both stress and fun while preparing it and I am very proud of us.

We used Vocaroo for recording, Pixabay for copyright-free sound effects, Audacity for editing, and Podbean to publish the podcast. I definitely recommend them, but if you use Vocaroo try to use your laptop when recording because it didn’t want to record properly on the phone. I don’t know maybe just mine was problematic (the universe really said "no you won`t do this task today hehe"😁)

Would I give a similar task to your learners in the future? Of course YES! 👍The students get to be creative, they develop new skills, for example editing. They get fun memories with their friends and they also can get over some anxiety, even if it is a little, when recording themselves and they can also improve their theatrical skills if they do a story podcast. Moreover the most important advantage of this task is that: they get to speak in English! They have the chance to practice and moreover, we as teachers can also listen to them and see the speaking level of the students, especially of the students that don’t participate in class much.
